Is Puerto Vallarta better than Cancun… YES, it is probably my favourite city in Mexico and only around a 2.5 hr flight from San Diego. Puerto Vallarta is a very safe part of Mexico and the locals are all very friendly.
Is Puerto Vallarta expensive… it was pretty expensive for Mexico, but If you make sterling, Dollars or Euros then it is still very affordable!
Puerto Vallarta beaches are quite small, but are very beautiful. It also has a great harbour area. Puerto Vallarta food is amazingly authentic local cuisine! I’d recommend staying in the old town to get a real feel for the culture and where it is a small place it is easy to walk pretty much everywhere.
If you are looking for things to do in Puerto Vallarta, I’d recommend doing some free tequila tastings and you can find some amazing restaurants in the old town, that are very affordable and tasty! You will need a basic understanding of Spanish, but most of the locals have good English.
